I've heard about these before. Fucking creepy.

Apprently the idea's been around since at least 1957, though not quite in the same way.

Like "Little Indian Princesses" meets "Aguirre: Wrath of God"

Shudder.

This article is really well written, though.

Did you read the opinionated article in the Red Eye about why waiting until marriage to get it on is a waste of time? I was so appauled that it was in the paper. I always feel a little stupider after reading that darn thing, I try to avoid it at all cost, but I picked it up yesterday off the seat next to me and was like........ seriously, why did I read that?

I have no problem with the idea of people wanting to wait until they're married, it just seems that with these Purity Balls (a delightfully ironic moniker), the concept of so openly celebrating this act seems a bit too personal. I couldn't imagine taking my Bruce-Willis impersonating kinda awkward father to a dance because Yay, Daddy, I'm not gonna get it on with my boyfriend!!! I mean, c'mon, that's weird.

i think it's an ok idea to want to wait till marriage, but what if things suddenly just feel right? no one can predict the future or how you're going to feel in it, so i think people should set goals, yes, but be flexible about them.

i agree with the above, that, yes, it seems a little personal. why the need for a huge party to promise not learning about someone as well as yourself before making a pledge to live with someone forever?

my mom wanted me to marry the boy i first moved in with before moving in together. she thought it'd encourage both of us to try harder with the relationship. if i'd have married him i'd be living a hellish life or already divorced. you can't just jump into something that serious. like a new car, you have to test things out. get to know them.

i'm glad my first time was with someone i didn't have to be with forever. it gave me a chance to figure out what i like, improve my style, and just get comfortable with it all. now that i'm with someone i know i want to be with forever, we're both confident and secure with ourselves and make each other happy.

why are people so stupid? what's the big deal about virginity anyway? yeah, no diseases (possibly, "virgins" still have anal and oral because they want to "stay virgins"), but i bet fucking a virgin is awkward and confusing and just weird. i like sex with people who are comfortable with themselves and know how to make us both happy. i wouldn't get in a car with someone who's only had their license a few weeks. i want someone experienced.

wow, that rant came out of nowhere!

Does it surprise you at all that the purity ball in the article was in Colorado Springs? It kind of says it all.
